The strong cold easterly last week totally did for a few overwintered broad beans exposed in a tall raised bed at home.

I was quite surprised as they happily survived being covered in snow in
January....  3 or 4 out of 15 have definitely had it, jury out on the rest.

Hopefully we won't get any more weather like that, and luckily I have some more ready fr planting out!  Not the best start to the year though!

Should be fine. Helps if your ground has warmed up a bit to avoid the seed rotting, the plants will be relatively frost hardy. While the gound is still a bit on he cold side I like to take all the seed I'm sowing and spread them out in between a piece of newspaper and put in a seed tray. Keep the paper damp and in a few days they will have all swollen and some started to shoot. Take out a shallow trench and I'll line it with a thin layer of old potting compost and rough grade vermiculite. Then cover. A little extra work but I like to stagger sowings of peas and find this way guarantees that the seed germinates well while conditions are not ideal.
