Keeled slug solution?
« on: January 10, 2013, 08:50 »
Would digging/rotavating Organic slug pellets into the ground be effective at killing keeled sugs?

I know it's not the conventional way of getting rid of them (nematodes) or useing slug pellets, but just wondered if it would work as i've read on here that some people put a few in the bottom of their potatoe trenches!

I think it has been withdrawn. . . but there was a product called "Fertosan" which was a white powder, you diluted it and sprayed it onto the ground.

I used to swear by it, there is now a product called "Slugclear" which is a liquid in a green plastic container with a measuring cup on top, this seems to be as effective.

Cheers,   Tony.

Organic slug pellets are the ferric phosphate ones and wilkos do them, lebelled 'slug bait' in fact theyre half price I see so I'll get loads...

in the ground they're very likely to just dissolve away but it's got to be worth a go I suppose?

As Tony says You can still buy a 'water in' type called Slug clear
http://www.theonlinegardener.com/product.asp?prod=1014958&np=c

BUT I'd have a good look at a packet and see if it's ok around veg, though

Wouldn't liberally sprinkling pellets on the ground and digging/rotavating them in be much cheaper though?

the OP specifically mentions organic - slug clear is metaldelhyde and so not approved for organic, whereas ferric phosphate is approved.
