First allotment plot day one
« on: January 28, 2012, 18:58 »
today i started work on my first ever plot. i have done small scale veggtable growing in my back garden but last year took it over with all the things i wanted to grow... i had around 40 buckets on the patio lol. So this year i decided that i should get an allotment.

I had been waiting for a plot for around 6 months which is pretty quick considering just 20-30 miles away the waiting lists stretched to around 40 years!

i was offered the plot on 17th of january and viewed it yesterday and signed the tennancy yesterday too

its a half plot of around 125sqm which is much bigger than i had expected lol. the person who had it before me had passed away over Christmas but it looked like it hadnt been worked for a while before that, saying that it wasnt in bad shape the ground wasnt compacted at all, not too many weeds odd patch of grass just alot of dead plants.

i decided to tackle it in steps not to get worn out and give up so i started on this patch today and then moved on to bed 1.

i also found a few surviving veggies which all smelled, felt and looked good so i took them home  i found swedes parsnips potatoes a few onions and 1 lonely massive corgette.

i found a few other things ;

6 rhubarb clusters (a few crowns clumped together, no idea what that is called lol)
2 gooseberry bushes
a whole section of raspberry canes
and blackberrys trained on a lean-to trelliss
and strawberrys which had started to take over a bit lol

also found some grapefruit size beetroot but it was really mushy.

i havent eaten any of the veg i found but im gonna let it dry overnight then sample it tommorow. only had it a day and already having some rewards lol.

unfortunatly i wont be able to get back over there untill thursday  but that gives me time to plan!.

day 1 was pretty productive and exciting cant wait till i get down there again .

Awwww.... How lovely it's been given to someone who will love it. Like Sunshine said I bet the old owner would be pleased.

Congratulations on your plot and long may the fun last. x

Sounds like fun ... and like my plot which I got on wednesday (after a 2 day wait!). Lots of fruit planted but no edible veg found yet.

I'm doing a little at a time and have so far only dug a trench about 3m x 0.3m

I just copy mine into photobucket and then copy the IMG code back into posts -- comes out the right size without any fiddling around  :D
