Hello all.

Checked on my potatoes recently.  I  put them in the shed to chit about 2 weeks ago, so far there are no signs of chitting but more worrying is the fact that about 5 or 6 have gone soft and very damp to the touch, why would this be?  My shed is draught free and in a very sheltered spot in the garden.

It sounds as if they are rotting, possibly due to condensation? Potatoes do eventually start to go soft as they chit, but that's normal. You could try cutting one in half to see if it's in good condition inside.

if they are soft without sprouting, I would think that the have been frosted.
Even in the shed they could still freeze, it's been that cold
