I have just received an e-mail from Creative Garden Ideas about their Progro peat-free range, with this suggestion:

mix a small amount of garden soil in the bottom 1/3rd of your pots to help aid moisture retention

Hardly a product endorsement as obviously the compost dries out too quickly by itself  

Somehow I don't think I'll buy any
