Copper and slugs.

In several seed catalogues i have seen adverts for copper rings for putting around plants for protection from slugs as slugs can't stand copper. If that is true why don't people just put copper pipe around their plots or beds (if we ignore the cost) :?:  I

But all the while people are still buying the rings, the manufacturers aren't going to tell anyone they don't work are they????   lol

But if we had enough copper, we could make bit copper plant boxes, that'd keep em out!!!!!

I use recycled 2ltr pop bottles, you can bury them a good few inches down and if you  use pinking scissors to cut the top and bottom off it gives a nice jagged edge to the top, not 100% but enough to deter most of them and gives the lettuce and beans shelter from the wind when young.
