The wife sowed some more flower seeds and potted up some others, i sowed the french beans(farrari) i had left over from last year to see if anything comes of them, not to worry if they dont come up because i have another packet of them(speedy) to sow in the middle of may, just going out now to get some more compost for the wifes pots.

a friend of the wife came round to give us a few tomato plants, I now feel totally inadequate as a gardener, theres me proud that tthe first of our tomato's has developed to 4 leaf stage, then round comes friend with 5x 18" high healthy monsters, then again we dont really have anywhere indoors to bring on plants.

Just watered, and repaired yesterdays wind damage  :(
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

Repaired the damage done by the wind but it has caused major damage to my plastic greenhouse! Wrecked that to throw my leeks/rosemary out of their pots. Planted the leeks but without any hope as they are quite small!

Sowed first 2 rows of 'Sugarsnax 54 F1' carrots in one of my raised beds.
Sowed 'Countess F1' parsnips - 3 rows

Transplanted more lettuce plants grown in the greenhouse - 'Flashy Butter Oak', 'Austrailian yellowleaf', and 'Marshall' Cos lettuce.

Made some of those fantastic  newspaper pots and got a few cues and courg on the go at last indoors.  It feels a bit early to me temp wise but a few people on here are going for it, so nothing ventured..... maybe we'll have skipped spring and gone straight into summer when it finally arrives

In the greenhouse after lunch:

Sowed Squash 'Honeybear F1'
Cucumber 'Marketmore  76'
Courgette 'Primula F1' - was going to sow 'Tuscany F1' but the mouldy state of the seed suggested to me why the packet was so cheap!!!
PSB 'Early Sprouting Purple'

Transplanted Feb sowings of Marigolds, toms and geraniums

Finished digging out all the rasps and put in 7 gooseberries instead. Do I really need 7 gooseberry bushes?
Raked and bashed, trying to break up rock hard lumps.
Everything is so dry after all that wet a few weeks ago.

At home i have just put my sweetcorn in for chitting and ive put all my tom and peppers in the greenhouse for some extra light and maybe if the sun keeps shinning a bit more heat, brought my caulis out of the cold frame to harden off along with the leeks, onion seedlings and lettuce, i will put them all back in later and bring my toms and peppers back in to.
Going up the lotty now to do a compost run.

Chitted sweetcorn. Cut comfrey and put in an onion sack in a barrel of water. Not sure when it will be ready to use,I'm guessing a couple of months ?  Planted this best of my Kelsae onion seedlings which hadn't put on any growth for several weeks so I'm wondering if the compost had run out of nutrients. They certainly weren't pot bound. Anyway they had to go out even though on the small side.
I think that's all my sowing and planting up to date so will be going round edging next.

Just got back in from the plot. Lots of digging over, then lots of hoeing. Planted about 12 Dahlia's.
