Pesky rabbits
« on: March 01, 2015, 10:56 »
Morning all. I am fed up with having to keep replanting my autumn planted onions. It looks like rabbit damage. They dont eat them they just dig in the bed and dislodge them. I may have to resort to a torch snd an air rifle unless anyone can come up with a better solution ?( Apart from fencing which is not practical)

Can you erect a tunnel with closed ends using clematis netting or whatever supported on hoops such as blue alkathene pipes until the onions get established?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Well if it is rabbits, can you make smoked rabbit bacon? :D

The other thing it could be is foxes. The ****ing things keep digging up my garden and pots looking for  toads and worms etc to eat. As well as helping themselves to 2 of my chickens.

Yes its definitely rabbits. Good point. I could perhaps stretch some net over for now. I will see if i can pick up some cheap plastic stuff like the pea netting. If all fails, its smoked rabbit kebabs! :-) Thanks.

Apart from pea netting not being strong enough to support the weight of the wabbits so they still will be able to get at your onions, they could probably get through the neting holes. Have a look at the black stiff plastic netting that comes in packs from Wilkos or on a roll at the garden centres.
