When the mowing had to stop...
« on: October 12, 2013, 18:20 »
Last weekend, the grass had grown quicker during the week, than during the hot summer, so the whole lot (Home and Patch), had to be done again!

I can never remember when the last cut occurs, but this year, as we're due an additional downpour for a week, and it's not that cold, it may well be well into October or even November, before I give the old chap a dose of oil and a bit of TLC before putting it to bed...!

The trouble is, that as it's a Growster-Power motor mower, it does churn up the turf when it's soft, and of course, it takes a week or so to settle down, probably like every one else's grass here..;0)

I cut mine yesterday, I'm hoping it is the last one  :) But then I thought that last week too   ::) I don't mind doing the mowing, I just hate cleaning the thing afterwards.

You clean your mowers!
How slovenly am I?  I do intend to do so this year for the first time ever, as I bought a new push mower ( much better than the hover), I also intend make sure to get the blades sharpened. I intend to do many things........

Well, I'm pretty sure I won't be out there today, as there's blue all over the weather map, and anyway, it's still dark at the moment...

They're easier to clean when they're wet, and you don't need a hammer drill and stone chisel to get the dried stuff away! I agree about a push mower being better than a hover one, although we had one of those for years until it died just as I had one more strip to go!

Ours needs mowing, planned for today, although it has slowed down a lot. It should have been done a week ago but the ground was too wet.

The grass is still growing like billy-o here. I'm sure the lawn has grown 3 ins in a week

Yes, mine is showing no signs of stopping. I do like it to look tidy over winter though, so the cutting must go on. Good tip about cleaning the mower when wet.
Growster, one strip to go would have driven me insane, that would bring every OCD tendency to the fore. If I couldn't have got another lawn mower immediately I would have been on my hands and knees with the shears!   :)

I clean the mower, hubby doesn't so my plan to get him cutting the grass has been foiled,if it was one of his machines it would be cleaned within an inch of it's life

If I'd had to mow today, the machine would have sunk about three feet into the mud and disappeared...

I really enjoy mowing when the conditions are right, but not when I have to, and the whole lot looks a mess afterwards!

Probably, there's one more cut out there, but I'm not holding my breath, because if there's more, it means that we're having some decent warm weather and that's the pay-off!

I do believe Kent has had a lorra lorra rain this last week and most electric mowers can't cope with it, and it isn't good to trample on a wet lawn anyway. Get a drying wind and I think at least a couple of cuts should see us through the winter.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I don't mow! My lovely goats do it for me and fertilize as they go. ;)

Just got it cut now on the longest mower setting, three weeks after I had planned to do so. ::) The ground is too wet and soft so it was a bit like rally driving but it really had to be cut and the forecast is that today is the best day of the week. At least it's uniformly long now and not clumpy. :)

Hmmm, I keep looking out there, and wondering if I should do the same today...

Trouble is, we had so much rain overnight, that the mower (and me) will probably sink in the mud, and I'll be like that bloke in 'Ice Cold in Alex'...
