Still mowing frantically...
« on: October 03, 2014, 06:16 »
All summer, I've mowed everywhere, including the Patch paths, and there's no letting up yet!

This afternoon, the whole lot needs doing again, including all the verges outside, and the bit by the village pond. But, I'm also looking forward to road-testing the 'Growstermatic Mower Shifter', which is constructed from two of Daught's old pram wheels and axle (yup, some things never get chucked away, and the Daughts are nearly as old (young) as I was twenty five years ago...)!

The axle just fits under the four wheels, and is held there with a short bungee. I usually push the mower down to the Patch, but it does make quite a lot of noise, and after the ten minute trip, I have to consider the next half-hour of manoeuvring round the paths and edges, and then the trip back - uphill for some of the way, so some Marmet pram wheels may well be the answer...

If it works I'll take a picture; if it doesn't; I'll take a tincture, because it will be close to six-o' clock and it's Friday...

I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

It works, Goosers, it works!

What could be better than a pleasant stroll down through the village, with one's lawnmower sitting proudly on two pram wheels...;0)

We bought one of those trolleys from Bloopers of Snortford to do this job, bu we did look a pair, trying to push the whole lot there and back, and the trolley was consigned to other duties.

So silence reigns on the route from the Turrets to the Patch!

That is an excellent gadget there Growster and it brought back memories of all sorts of things we used to make with those big pram wheels back in the day, mainly ones to transport our own selves around at some speed, rather than a  mower

Glad the verges are going to be able to be kept neat and tidy  :D

We always had go-carts made from pram wheels, Sunny! There even used to be races in the village!

One of them had a steering wheel from a lorry I seem to recall!

We like doing the verges outside, as the village sign used to be there, and it looked so tatty, we decided to tidy it all up! That was over twenty years ago...

You're right, Plum - plenty of old folkery went into the making of that contraption!

I might even patent it..;0)

I'd get your dibs in now before someone else does. Well done you! I was always having my leg pulled at work for using items I kept in a drawer in case they might come in handy. Got my own back several times too. Might try to make one similar for an ageing gander to get about - or perhaps not, considering the many pot holes and the dykes on either side of our lane!!!!  :tongue2:

Yes my other half had to mow yesterday.  Never before has he mown lawns so late in the year. Still it looks lovely and smart and it sucked up all the leaves too.

Given mine a final mow today for the year.

Pressure washed the machine totally clean, took the blade off, spark plug out (bunged up the hole safely), took the fuel tank off and stored the machine away for next year. (Just had an idea to drain the oil tomorrow....)

Now if someone decides to acquire my mower, they'll have a job to complete the jigsaw!  :D
