« on: March 02, 2009, 19:50 »
Ive lifted old broken concrete base, that was my old patio (And Ants Home) So I dont want to lay slabs as area is not square and dont want to cut slabs? I priced stone chips £200 per tonne,I only need 1xtonne but still pricey. So any suggestions please. Thanks

that's a tough question to answer. How about something like mixed stuff: some stone chips (bagged) surrounding flat field stones and slices of tree trunks and some homemade decorative slabs. This is sometimes called crazy paving. Or, you could do a camomile 'lawn' if the area is not heavily used.
Check salvage yards for any bargain items you can use.

If you are not fussed as to what stone chips you get you should be able to get them for way less than £200 tonne.

Round here pea gravel is £62.00 tonne try your local builders merchant.  Lime stone will be cheeper but goes grey after a fairly short time.
We all have wings but some of us don't know why.

You could use crushed limestone (aka crusher run or quarry bottoms! ) round here we can collect it for £16 / tonne ( or £40 a big blue bag delivered from Jewsons) and top it off with a few small bags of expensive decorative chippings or cheap gravel. This avoids the limestone being carried into the house on shoes.
Ideally the limestone needs compacting with a wacker plate but you could hire one for £20 and still be quids in
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!
