Hi All,
I always grow Desiree spuds as a Main Crop because they are great all rounder and crucially have good slug resistance (I get a lot of Keel slugs in my spuds but not Desiree).

A plot neighbour said I should grow Romano as they a derivative of Desiree but better. Has anyone grown Romano? if so what did you think of them for cooking & how were they with the Slugs?

I grew Romano this year (just a trial 5 seed potatoes)  They are indeed a lot like Desiree but I'm afraid my crop was not so clever this year so can't tell you much - no slug holes, but then neither were any of the others as the soil got very dry, and I hadn't realised that the plum tree next to the bed had sucked every bit of moisture out of the soil.  So, only small potatoes for me and haven't tried them.

I was thrilled with my Desiree so going to grow them again next year.

After being in the ground for just over 2 months I got a great crop one plant did end up with black leg and the rest of the crop blight infested but foliage cut and tubers so far have been perfect a lot still be 'stored' in the ground so hopefully the slug resistence will do its job
