toms from cuttings?

toms from cuttings?

i watched the link on here about taking the middle shoot off the tomatoes and putting in compost.
has anyone done this as mine after a week still look really sad. is this normal?

I've done it once and it worked fine, but I know several people on here who do it regularly.

Did you cut the side shoot out, or just 'pull' it off.  well pull is probably the wrong word.  I just sort of push the shoot with my thumb, it usually comes off cleanly.  I think I put it in rooting powder then just put it in a pot of compost until it started to grow.

I just pinched some out and stuck them straight in the greenhouse border soil.
They looked very sad for a week or 2 but then they are up and running :)

i tried this with some side shoots.. just pulled them off gently sideways and stuck in the soil.. has been a week and looking pretty dead! Not worried though as have enough anyway! May try with some rooting powder just to check :)

They are the easiest things in the world to root. I've just got 24 out of 24. As has been said, leave them, they'll pick up - just don't forget to water them!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

yeh i just nip them off and i left a few on my plants so they were a good 3 inchs tall. hopefully they will pick up its worth a try in the end.
