ooh, told DH that I am bidding on an eglu
« on: December 10, 2008, 17:06 »
and he just asked if it was for the Garden or the Allotment  To say I am shocked in an understatement. I really, truely thought he would ge a little bit ballistic but nope. Yet another reason for me to love him

Anyway, he did ask something which I had not thought of...

If I keep chickens do I have to inform the council or register them or anything? I am only going to be getting about 4 so its not going to be a huge flock or anything.

I do have a friend a few miles away who has chickens, they are all called Dave   and I am going to ask her if I can visit so she can teach me all things chicken. I will also be lurking like a mad lurker type person on here.

TIA for your help :D

Good news Ygerna. You won't regret it. :)

No need to register with anyone.

Only thing to check is your deeds (or rental agreement) to make sure you're allowed to keep poultry/livestock. If you're not, don't tell anyone
If it says nothing, you're all clear.

Hope to see a long list of questions soon :D

Some houses have a clause in the deeds that prohibit the keeping of poultry.   I just asked my neighbours (one side being my parents) if they minded, and promised some free eggs and they were more than happy.

The eglu is suitable for 2-4 medium chooks, the eglu cube however can have up to 10 :D

I am going for the plead ignorance thing on the deeds, I will say they are pets, not poultry if anyone asks. :D
