Duckling Feeding Advice
« on: August 11, 2009, 11:06 »
Hi,
My two welsh harlequins are now 6-7 weeks old and I am still feeding them chick crumb.
I am right in saying that its about now that they should go on to grower pellets?
Also at what age should I start feeding them layer pellets?

Many Thanks
Darren

Hi Darren
It would be best if they went on to Growers feed now, I change all mine over by 3 weeks :)

I would change onto layers pellets at around 18 weeks :)

Could it do any halm feeding them on crumbs for this long?
I sure soemone one advised me that you are better to feed them crumbs for longer rather than starting them on growers too early.

I'm a bit worried now, will go buy some organic growers tomorrow, drove round today loking but no where local had any in stock!!!

Only thing that could happen is angel wing, this happens when the wing feathers grow to quickly due to protein levels in chick crumb. The wings then drop as the feathers are heavier :(
Doesn't do them any harm but they will look odd :)

One of the birds does have its wings resting slightly lower then the other bird, is this what you mean, will this sort its self out or will he/she have this for life

No this isnt stuck out they just sit a little low and he/she sometimes shifts her wings up higher, doesnt look that bad when I just went out as they have fully feathered up now and the wing sits inside the side/chest feather if you know what i mean!
