sowing perennial seed
« on: June 28, 2008, 20:55 »
i want to grow some perennial flowers to plant out in beds / pots next year.  i've got rudbeckia, lavender, dwarf lupin, geranium, black eye susan to name a few.

can i sow them in trays in the greenhouse now, prick'em out and keep them in the greenhouse all over winter until next spring?, repotting when neccesary?  bearing in mind my greenhouse isn't heated?

It's very late to be sowing these seeds, but I suppose you can try, but I don't think you'll gain a lot. It's usual to start them early spring & most wil make decent plants the same year.

Geraniums especially you can kiss bye bye at the first frost that gets into the greenhouse.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
