too late to prune grapes (and blackcurrants?) ?
« on: February 08, 2011, 08:33 »
hello I've taken on a plot with an established grape vine but it has not been pruned for several years, would it be too late to prune it now for the year ahead (eg will it already be sending stored energy into the parts I'd chop off) or might there still be time to do this without detriment to the plant? The same goes for some blackcurrant bushes on the same plot...

lucky eh

many thanks

You would normally prune grapes in the dead of winter... I think that's about now lol!  Anyway, snip off a bit and if it bleeds then it's a bit too late, if not hack a way!

I haven't done mine yet... another job for the weekend :)

I also think you should be OK, last year mine was quite late in it's buds swelling and that was in a cold greenhouse, but be quick.
