I am aware that conventional wisdom to  says take hardwood cuttings or layer in autumn and I have done this with some success in the past.
I fancy trying soft or semi ripe cuttings like one would do for Fuscias ect.
As anyone tried ? If so what were the results?Any thougts, ideas or tips gratefully appretiated    Bob

  Although i'm sure it's not the way it should be done.  I snipped off a bit off my redcurrant t'other year and just poked it into the soil at the side.....this year i've got another nice little redcurrant bush!  It just rooted, from a softwood cutting in early summer.

The least fuss for the most result is to simply give a slight cut to the underside of an outward facing branch, lay it on the ground, put a rock on top of the cut area to hold it against the soil, and next year you can cut off a nice thriving branch for replanting. Works for all the currants.  :D

Forgot to add that you can do it any time of the year to any wood, soft or hard. Currants just want to propogate and this method makes it happen faster.  :D

Thank you Z, T and F.I suspect the professional growers must use a different technique to bring theirs on to a reasonable size and sell them on to the big store groups and make a profit!
Mine take two years to reach that size but Ill keep trying.   Bob.
