Just a reminder to be careful when turning your compost piles, I gave accidentally one a fairly hard poke with my fork at the weekend and felt horrible about it.

Little feller moved off though (and no sign of blood), so fingers crossed he's ok!

A timely reminder Steve. The same goes when lighting bonfires - a hog could have taken up residence.

Better still, don't turn your compost heap. In all the years I've been gardening I've never once turned a compost heap and always get the most wonderful crumbly good stuff. If you put the right mixture into the heap, make it big enough and then wait you'll get first class compost.

I suppose it's a bit like the dig/no dig argument. There's some that do and some that don't but as long as you get the results you wanted it doesn't really matter.

Yes very timely reminder.  We have a family in our garden.  Plenty of hidey spaces for them.  Good for keeping the slugs down.  You've got to love Mr Spiney Hedge Pig
