I've never grown celeriac before.   Is there still time to sow seeds in the greenhouse?  Any advice on planting and growing on?    I would be grateful for any general advice.

It likes moist soil, at least til it gets going.  I plant mine in soil enriched with plenty of rotted manure  :)  Using manure helps to make the soil more moisture retentive.  I grow the seedlings on til I've got quite a substantial plant before planting out into their final positions on the plot.

A friend gave me a few spare celeriac plants last year so I put them in as my wife likes them. (to be honnest I hate the taste).

I wasn't disappointed when I lifted them to discover they had made very little size and would only produce one meal between them. (Just 6 in all).

Give me a decent carrot, beetroot or swede any day. (Sorry to celeriac lovers).

I think they're the bees knees and are very versatile in the kitchen. All grist to the mill of those who grow to cook

Haven't got any in early enough this year. Last time I didn't feed them enough - didn't realise just how hungry a crop they are. Might just repeat next year.

I'll be sowing some this weekend, as everything is so late this year!

Last year's were very small, about the size of a hen's egg, but the flavour was very concentrated, and it's all in the way you manage the leaves later on in summer!

I was far too timid it seems! They really do need to be taken off ruthlessly at the base!

I had some celeriac at the flooded end of my plot and they did really well, small but powerful flavour, like Growster's.  The ones at the dry end didn't do at all well. So they like it pretty wet.

I find it a little bit late  to start sowing celeriac now. They normally need several weeks to germinate and grow very slowly. I start sowing the seeds end of February/beginning of March and normally have decent sized celeriacs in autumn. Last year I have sown celeriac too late (beginning of April) and they were very small.

Maybe you could buy some plug plants, it is not too late to plant them.
