From past experience I would agree it seems a bit late to sow celeriac, but it is too early for plug plants to be available yet I think

You could always try some (they like it warm and seed not covered to germinate) as once up they can grow quite quickly.

Nothing lost tbh and you can always buy plug plants later if the seedlings don't take off

My seed have been in for weeks and so far doing nothing - so it better not be too late  *manic laughter*

When do you pot them on? Mine are in little modules, just over an inch high and are showing 1-2 sets of true leaves. I've never grown them before...

Mine have been in 10 days and no show, the same with celery - had hoped to crack them this year but not too hopeful at the moment.

I've just this minute come back in from potting mine on at exactly the same stage, if that helps.

(Anyone want a few hundred surplus seedlings)
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Just to let the Kent contingent know, Notcutts in Maidstone have some celeriac in modules, and as we were so late thinking about them we paid £3.49 for eight plug plants just a few hours ago!

They seem fine, but there again, it's how you grow them on that counts!

It may be an expensive choice, but I like celeriac and would like to say one day, that they grew to the size you buy for a decent remoulade!

Haven't heard that phrase for some time, Mums! (You're not my big chum Lisa from Sth London are you - she always signed off with that one...)!

;0)

They (Notcutes) may be a few miles too far for you, but we spent a happy hour there today...

The bank will be thrilled too...:0(

No I'm Lesley not Lisa
I wandered around Dobbies on Tuesday (I also raided the bank  ::) ) but never thought to look tbh, but
if they have them in Notcutts they'll prob have them in there, or at Bybrook Barn  ;)

I might have to have a wander to Chessington GC to compare and contrast if they have any...

I planted some in a tray about 3-4 weeks ago thought I sowed them quite thinly but they have grown in clumps.

very green leaves  but seems a faff to pot them on

is this correct to do or do I wait until there bigger and plant outside when bigger

Mine took just over a week to germinate but I'm going to have the same problem I think Mike.  You could always pot them on in small clumps and just snip out the weakest ones or swish them in a bowl of water to untangle?  I'm going to pot mine on for now as they are very teeny so I'm thinking that a frost would be the end of them and looking forward to hearing opinions from those 'in the know'.  ::)

Mine are in my light box which has now been moved to the spare room due to youngest son switching it off (he objected to my cruelty - making them grow 24/7).  :D  I have no clue if they will cope with constant 'daylight'...

No.1 - it's impossible to sow celeriac thinly.

No.2 - what's all this messing about with swishing?

I've transplanted mine today - there were 100's in a 3" pot.

The big ones pull out, the weaker ones dont.

Simple.
