Rent rise on Council site
It's yet another ploy to get people off the waiting lists aka give up self sufficiency.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Well in Salford our rent on site has gone up from £19 to £42 for 2009. The bill are suposed to be paid by 1st Jan but we got the bills on the 15th Jan. To add to insult the Council agreed on the 15th September 2008 there would be no rent rise. http://services.salford.gov.uk/solar_documents/CSSLMR210408H.DOC So were do we go now. Pay the bill or be kicked off.

Thanks Salford for supporting grow your own.

Blimey, some places are expensive and a 42% rise is rather steep. Ive just got my 1/3 plot which is about 100m2 and it was £6.58 plus £4 insurance for the year, i was gobsmacked it was so little.

Rents in the Wakefield City area vary from site to site but average around
£40 for 300 sq yards including water and fenced off. My plot is with the
local parish council and went up by 50p to £7.50 this year plus £2 assosiation fee
again 300 sq yards with water and fenced off with 2 secure gates and vehicle access to each plot. We get 12 months notice of any increase and already know that the rent will be up
by £5 next year to cover the water charges which are included free at the moment.
So we do very well at the moment although some of the older polt holders have
complained about the £5 for next year.

My rent is just over 30 quid for 125m2 plot in Burnley. But 25m2 is not much use as it is covered in glass from the last tenant.

I pay £12.00 a year for a full plot. Facilities include one tap on the site. Security is a piece of rope to tie the gate shut  ::) Parking is limited (to the side of the road).

Its charity run.

Its worth every last penny  :D

Mines £39.73 (just got a letter warning of an increase of about a fiver a year) for 167sm.
Water and locked gates in the price.
A rise of 40 odd percent IS a lot,but Id still happily pay triple for it

edited to say: Just checked tenancy agreement and its only gone up £2.04

Thinks mine was £28-£30ish  last year. Havent had this years invoice yet. The site is fenced, though not high, lots of water taps around the place and the council provides lorry loads of manure each year ... Bargain! .. even if they increase the rent it's still very little for the pleasure we get from it (not to mention all the fresh fruit & veggies)  :)
