planting close to edge

Hi - how close can I plant things to the edge of a raised bed? I'm trying to squeeze as much in as possible! Presumably if a plant says it needs 40cm between rows, I don't need a full 40cm from the edge of the raised bed? How close can I go?

You can plant close to edge, if soil was well prepared and is nutritious.

Would 10cm be ok? The soil is pretty good i think and the beds are deep

Half of the distance between rows.
It's the area each plant has that's the important thing.

If you don't mind smaller plants you can plant closer than the packet says. Apparently you can get higher yields too.
