whats every ones favourite bit of cheese
« on: February 03, 2009, 13:34 »
:Dwas just wondering whats everyone's favourite piece of cheese , mine is a nicely matured bit of cheddar and hubby's is cheshire , and Caerphilly and white Stilton .
over here we are starved of good cheese there doesn't seem to be a good eating cheese , they have a rubbery texture and are better in cooking .

West Country Brie, We beat the french again  :tongue2:
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I always find Brie a tad "plastic" in taste

I also miss the cream cheese with hot pepper in it, in the little tubs...............loved it on jkt spuds.MMMMMM ::)
Really do miss Greece a lot sometimes :( don't think i could be there now tho what with the £/Eu rate being so bad :( Even my two weeks hol this year will be difficult.
Is it a big prob for you?

Fresh Anthotiros has soft texture, mild taste, very pleasant organoleptic properties(?), and is consumed as table cheese or used in the preparation of cheese-pastries
Wasn't too far out was I?

Cheshire!!! As a child I used to go to the indoor market in Stockport, which I referred to as the "smelly market" and buy Cheshire and Mild Lancashire but never did like the Tasty Lancashire :D

Cathedral Cheddar for us, can't abide any 'plastic' cheese like Edam. Must have Stilton for cooking and Roule at Christmas but I also like Gloucester with onion and chives (makes a good macaroni cheese). Don't even start me on the low fat ones because they have no taste whatsoever and how they can call them cheese!

In no particular order:

Cheddar (extra mature and crumbly, so strong it blows the roof of your mouth off)
Soft goats cheese
Vignotte (you can feel your arteries clogging up as you eat it!)
Brie
Feta
Halloumi
Pave Dauphinois
Cheshire
Wensleydale
Parmesan
Ricotta
Stilton
Danish Blue
Rocquefort

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm I luuuuurve cheese!  :D
Sal

Organic...so far!

There's an italian market that comes to the local town twice a year and they have this wonderful goats cheese.

It's white in colour with an orange rind.  a really strong flavour but a semi firm texture (kind of rubbery like edam).

i searched and searched between june and when they came again in december because i wasn't sure of the name. i couldn't find it anywhere, including specialist cheese shops in london.

i made a note of the name when they came in December and found a website when i got home.  it seems it's a cheese made in this one place,  and is one of those specialist ones that only comes from one dairy in italy.

But do you think i can find the name or the website now??!!  this thread has led me to discover that i've managed to lose the link!!! >:(

I'll try almost any cheese these day with the exception of stinking bishop, one with chillies in it or very/over ripe french ones like Chaumes.  i prefer my cheese moist rather than dry and crumbly though.

GGGrrrrr! i'm so frustrated i can't find that damn cheese again now!
