If I see someone else in Stafford lugging a bag of Hemcore I'll know who it is! LOL

I'm one of the naughty people who uses hay  i didn't know it was dangerous to begin with. I have never had any problems, but I poo pick and replace , and clean out every week, it doesn't get chance to get damp. I want to change because of the sheer amount of waste. aubiose might be French, but i've never found it :(
We have 17 chickens, 3 quail, 2 dogs, 3 cats and that's enough (for this week)

Hi kitkat :) I think the problem with hay is moreso that it gets impacted inside the hens if they eat it and straw is problematic because it stays damp. I hope you manage to track aubiose down as I have hopefully found a stockist of the similar Hemcore.

Kitkat, can you get paille de lin?

I get mine from the flour/feed mill and it's 9euros for 20kg.

It is really absorbant.  I just pick off the poo and give it a fluff up and change the whole lot once a month.  A 20kg bale lasts me 4 to 6 weeks.

I use it in the next boxes, but I also put a few handfuls of straw on top to make the nest boxes really cosy.

I think my hemcore costs me £8 something per large bale (which is about £1.50 more than a bale of shavings from my suppliers) and it lasts me ages. joyxx
Staffies are softer than you think.

Hi Casey, no i cant get that stuff, i have shopped around trying to get something else. Everyone i know uses hay[a few use straw] I've been using it now for nigh on 2 years, the chooks never eat it, so i'm not going to worry about it. :)
