Have just talen on an allotment,and am overun with thw above,how can i get rid of them,having tried to dig one up ,it was like removing a tree stump.

Also what is the best way to start a bonfire to get rid off all the weeds etc

Globe artichokes do have a crown from which the growth comes each year and it dies back in the winter. Its a shame you don't like or want them, I'm just growing some from seed this year with the hope that we'll get loads of lovely artichokes next year. I think you'll just have to keep digging....

You normally start a bonfire with some dry material such as paper or twigs/kindling sized dry wood. When its going well you can add you weeds gradually on top to burn them, not too much at a time or you'll smother it. Those lidded incinerator bins are handy, if you're not so good at the fire lighting. We have one and even I can set a bonfire in it. Just watch out for local bye-laws on restriction of when or where you can light a fire.

Do they have lots of edible artichokes on them?

I find the same with the bonfire although I use my weed wand to actually set fire to the dry stuff it works a treat & I much impress the old boys on the lottie (I hide the wand so they just think I am Ray Mears, he, he)
