Delicate plants and the Royal Mail just don't seem to go together!!  Does anyone buy plants online and if so who would you recommend?

Over the years I've bought a number of plants online particularly perennials from Crocus, they're not the cheapest but all the plants I've had have been top class, and the packaging is an art form!! Jude.

This year didn't have time to grow geraniums (pelargoniums) from seed so ordered a "special offer" cheaper lot on-line.

Pleased with quality of plants... and coping with the costs... but would normally grow from seed as cuttings are costly to keep through the winter in a heated greenhouse.

Plant Connection is very good at packaging.  Not a huge range but excellent service  :)

Hi

I buy lot's on Ebay, some people pack well, others don't so trial and error really. I go on postage/costs & then judge them when they arrive & save only the good dealers.

Of the main suppliers, I only use one, they pack well, pity the quality of the plants doesn't match  >:(

I thought their prices compared well to some other suppliers  ;)

Worth a thought for next year if I start saving sometime soon!  ::)

I too bought a few things on ebay but it can be a bit hit and miss, I must say.  The tomato plugs I bought were quite leggy but the seller says 'no-one else has complained'.

Getting my hedge plants froms ScotsPlantsDirect, just over £1 for 100, 20-40cm.  Arriving Wed.  But I guess you won't need hedges on an allotment

Gardening Direct and Jersey Direct for me - they are probably from the same place in Jersey too. Always such good quality plants and well packed. No P+P also.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Well having said that on reflection they are not massively more expensive and the ones we had were excellant quality, I've had Raspberry canes when on special offer, Red dogwood, Japenese azealeas, box, arbutus tree or strawberry tree, June berry, winter honey suckle, buddleja, and ceanothus.
