PH Testing Kit - Can anyone recommend
« on: December 30, 2010, 12:12 »
Hi,  I am going to buy a ph testing kit this year to test different areas of soil on my allotment.

Does anyone use them and can you recommend a good one - I have been looking on ebay and not sure which to get

Thanks

I have generally heard that the chemical ones where you 'dilute' some soil are more reliable than the metal probe types, but otherwise can't help.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

This has been discussed in here before. Perhaps a forum search on ph testing or soil testing would produce some threads worth reading.

I've got a HB kit as well. The only thing you have to remember is to use distilled water, otherwise you'll be measuring the PH of your tap water.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

What about using it from a water butt?

Rain water is not pH neutral, can be between 5.5 & 6.0.

This is due to a reaction with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere producing the good old acid rain.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Best I get some distilled water then. I'm just allergic to paying for what falls from the sky.  ;)
