Digalotty's right there! You'll have to mow it though!

Well done for getting the right plot dimensions sorted out!

Digalotty

Yup it will be full steam ahead, but slow and easy if that makes sense. The last thing we need is for me to throw my back out, now we have just got the Lotty.

We realise that just because we have so much space now we don't need to use all of it this season. We can manure and cover some to get it ready for next year.

That sounds a very sensible idea to me.... a little at a time and easy does it.  ;)

How wonderful to have room to expand!!

Learner

I've been doing this for years  :D That's one of the reasons why we wanted a Lotty, to help reduce the expansion  and get fitter and healthier whilst doing it.  :D

Yup we have already been looking at petrol strimmers, but with the expansion it may have to be a mower.  Our back garden is small enough that I can cut the grass there with "nail scissors"  :D

The only down side with the plot is there is no mains water on site, so everything will have to be shipped in.  We will have to learn every "mulching" trick there is to try retain moisture in the ground.

Cheers for all the comments everybody, they are most appreciated.

Hi WhiteWolf
3ft out from the upright fence sould do it.
It means they would have start digging down 3ft away from your fence to get under it.
But if you need to reduce this distance you can.

Hi Everybody

It has been a while  since I posted on the site (a long while) so I thought I would update this thread.

Well everything started well, but proceeded to go the shape of the pear.

The plot was a nightmare, the ground looked well clear but within just a couple of weeks the whole thing was covered in weird looking weeds (technical term  ;))

We found that that there was no water on site, so every drop we would require would need to be transported. which would be a real pain in the proverbial.

I then did some rough calculations and came to the conclusion that it would cost us more in fuel to transport the water than it would to just buy the veg we could grow. If you have a look back to the photos on page one you can see the size of the plot and get an idea of amount of water we would need.

The other plot holders live in the houses that back onto the site, so they only had to run a hose from their own gardens to water their plots.

So reluctantly we decided to give the lotty up (this was just over a year ago) and keep our fingers crossed for a plot on the local parish site.

Well the nice lady from the parish council rang SWMBO last week and offered us a plot on the local site, which we grabbed with both hands. This site is within walking distance and has water on site  :D

We are just waiting for the contract and it's ours.  :D :D

I will start a new thread once it's all mine and will add pictures.

Regards
