Ok growing jalapenos for the first time and they are doing quite well and still growing fresh small chilli's. We still will have quite a few weeks of warm summer weather to come down here so I am wondering if these chilli's are best picked when they are a decent size to keep them growing more or can you just harvest them at the end of the season? I am pickling them sliced when green don't want red ones.

If you want them green then they need to be picked before they turn red so keep picking as they grow.

I pick mine when they're 2-2.5 inches long or if they skin has started to get that crackle effect. I've never left one on the plant long enough for it to turn red.

I pick some as they grow, and leave others to ripen to red. I do feed the plants to ensure they carry on flowering as long as possible though

It's certainly been a good year for them here so obviously not sunshine dependant !
Pick them before they go red and they will keep producing.
