Jalapenos ????
« on: September 10, 2014, 13:02 »
Hi all,

This is the 2nd time i've attempted jalapenos in my green house.
Plant great / Crop great but the heat is non existant  :( :( >:(
I used 2 different seed packets as well.

My other cayenne chillis seem fine after i starve them of water for a while but my JAL's are poor.

Any thoughts ??
Keith

Are they fully ripe?

My jalapenos are still green. I don't expect them for another month yet.

I always pick mine green. Heat is just right. And I dont give them a lot of attention. Maybe thats the answer?

Green is good. You can leave them to redden, but green should still give spicey.

One school of thought is to treat chillis mean to increase heat. I have done this, I think it works, small pot, irregular watering and feed. You will get a smaller crop, but hotter. Alternatively if you want heat grow something hotter?

I saw a programme where they were interviewing a professional chilli grower somewhere in the UK and his comment (if I remember right) was that chillies should only be watered when the soil was dry and then they should be soaked and left until it was dry again. I have tried that approach this year and my Cayenne seem much hotter than I normally experience (haven't tried the Jalapenos yet).
