please can anyone give me any advice as to how many chickens i should keep the plot i have in mind is approx 4m x 3m,also which chickens are best for laying the most . :?:  :?:

Would they get out and about or stay in the run all the time ?

I'd suggest about 3 or 4 hens for that area. We only have experience of amberlinks and they are excellent layers. Over a year old and still layign every day throughout winter.

i suppose when we can say that the garden is secure we would let them out,but for the time being they would stop in there run,but then again we might be able to free up a little more space but not much

My Meadowsweet Black Stars are very reliable layers, relaxed and cheerful hens. Tough as old boots for weather. Pretty to look at too.

i have ex batts an they lay really well. also your have the added pleasure of knowing u gave a mistreated bird a new lease of life   .

as for the size of the run i would say 4-5 max
