Hi Shaunie

Is the lump there all the time?
Is it more obvious at certain times of day?
What does the lump feel like?

Sounds to me like you could mean the crop :?
This will get bigger as the day goes on as it fills with food.
If you feel it you might be able to feel corn / pelllets through the skin :)

Do you keep food down for them all the time :?
ie have they access to food first thing in the morning(in the coop) even before you let them out?

It seems a little odd to me that you have more than one hen like this :?

presuming they have grit & oyster shell in their run?

If the crops are full before they have their breakfast then there might be a problem :?

Are they showing any other signs of being off colour?
Poops normal?
Eye's bright?
standing around or doing normal chickeny things?
No coughing, sneezing or gasping?

The only way to be sure Shaunie, is to check them very first thing BEFORE they get to the food.

Their crops should be empty at that time but will likely be full the rest of the time. As they're growing I'm guessing they'll eat like there's no tomorrow.

If they're eating and drinking normally, their poo seems ok and they are runnign around normally, then I wouldn't worry, but if you can check them first thing, it'll confirm it.
Their breasts should be fairly flat and the same both sides then. Within about 30 seconds they'll start filling up and will have a lump until they empty their crop.

Good luck with catching them before they get to the food !

i remember the first time we noticed Erica's crop at night - Adam started panicking because he thought she'd got a growth! It was sooo big, though, that it poked through all her feathers and made her look like she had a big bald patch!
