munched radishes
« on: April 24, 2007, 14:23 »
My line of radish seedlings which were my pride and joy have dissapeared at one end of the row ....darn...well they are there but leaveless.

Is this mice, birds or slugs?

whats the easiest organic way to stop them getting nibbled?...fleece?, net? slug detterent?...or night time vigil?

oh and RELIEF...my in ground spuds are FINALLY showing through...thought i had killed them off as my potted spuds are romping away and have been for weeks. .

Probably slugs. Cover them with something - half a bottle, plastic thing you get tomatoes in from the supermarket. Stick a stick through to stop the plastic blowing away.
Or use slug pellets.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Exactly the same happened to my whole row of radishes last week. grrrr   I'm fairly sure it was slugs, as putting organic slug pellets down seems to have stopped the munchers in their tracks.

However, the row of mixed salad that was also coming up a treat was munched away during the day on Sunday! I'm pretty certain it's down to the two huge pigeons who walk around the garden like they own the place. Have now covered all the salady stuff with chicken wire, and put the organic pellets down just in case.
