I work on the basis of multiplying the watts by the price of a unit x 10 for the year (and then knocking off 10% to be closer [12.3% if you are good at maths!]).

So if Leccy is £0.15 a unit then 1 watt costs £1.50-ish a year (actually £1.31)

e.g. a 500W device is 500 * 1.5 = £750, less 10% = £675 [actual figure is £650] a year

... a 500 Watt home cinema system that you never put on standby ... or 5 x 100W bulbs left on all the time, or 10 left on half the time ...

As my income, in the not too distant future, is about to be reduced by around 60% I think I'll just hang on a bit until the conservatory heats up in the spring sunshine...

Nice bit of maths though  :)
