I wonder if anyone can help me.

I have a plum tree on my allotment, and at the moment it is laden with fruit.  However, there are lots of wasps around it and there is a blob of 'goo' at the end of the fruit!

Apologies for the description, and I havent got a photo at the moment, but can someone tell me what it is and if I can eat the fruit.

It sounds to me like damage done by the grubs of the plum moth.  It is too late to do anything about it this year - you have to try and kill the grubs before they get inside the fruit as the damage you are seeing is done as they eat their way out.  Wasps are attracted to the damaged fruit and feed on it.

You can certainly eat the fruit if it is not too badly eaten or rotted.  Pick them with gloves on so that you do not get stung and cut away the damaged bits.
