You may want to mark this one as the most stupid question ever asked, but I am unsure and need to know so here goes nothing

I am growing red drumhead

See pic but I know they look red but they also have alot of green, are they like the red cabbage I buy in t***o under the green leaves

I dont think green cabbage works in Gordon Ramseys recipe.

PS I still cant decide if its ready, I dont wnat to pick it too early

If that head is as hard as it looks I would say it's pretty ready :D  I think they are like the red cabbages you buy in the shops which is why I don't grow it as I cant stand the stuff.  When we used to get veg boxes (can't imagine that now!) it was the one thing we never ate :tongue2:  Looks pretty though.

What's your location BQ? Perhaps you could put it in your profile.

That to me looks a very healthy plant that has more heartening up to do. (That's not to say you can't harvest what is there). Mine are only just starting to get hearts.

Red Drumhead are not as prone to going over as quickly as many of the standard green cabbage and can grow to quite a size. I'd be disappointed if I didn't get at least a 6" solid heart after all the loose leaves have been stripped off. They do tend to come in later in the year, mine usually co-incide with sweetcorn in September.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Your red cabbages look lovely! Mine are fully heartened up but just won't turn red. Does this usually take a long, long time?

That may just be the outer leaves and the further in you go the redder they get.

That depends on so many things!

As I said in a previous post on this thread, I'm disappointed if I don't get at least a 6" heart, but conditions vary so much it's impossible to say what you should get.
