Gardening at work
« on: April 22, 2009, 16:45 »
Hopefully, I am now starting a new trend.  I work in an office five days a week, and really hate it when I'm in the office on days like this week (sunny, sunny and sunny) :nowink:.  So I've brought the allotment to the office, namely, my tumbling toms.  They are now on the windowsill, with little flowers starting to open, and hopefully, in a few weeks, me and my colleagues will be eating fresh toms. :tongue2:

I feel relaxed already 8)

Who know what next year, full salads ;)

I've had the same idea, we (3 of us) are moving out of our quite Accounts office into the GENERAL NOISY office which has sun for most of the day.

This is supposed to be a cost cutting measure - but it has already cost at least 20 days to sort?!?!?!?

Anyway toms in pots ready to go, may try a lettuce or 2.

we have three huge tubs on the canal quayside that I am supposed to keep neat and tidy and fill with flowers - mmm they are sporting some very nice early lettuce amongst the greenery and soon will be joined by tomatoes and of course there will be a few flowers for company ;)

At work "we" grow runner beans, carrots, pumpkin, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and anything else that will fit in the various raised beds and removed patches of grassed lawn.

I say "we"........ I mean the members of the gardening club (7 to 11 years old).
I mostly get to glimpse them out of the window as I'm usually left to complete the record keeping, phone calls and info for staff while my colleague escapes to the veg plot. Lucky devil... ::)

I wonder if i could set up a garden club at work hmmm i have 280 acres to play with but making something secure enough would be a challenge.

Just lucky I guess because we now have a modest veg plot with raised beds, greenhouse etc and as part of my job is to work with the children I use every opportunity to get them out there in the garden --- earthing up spuds yesterday with 8 year olds ---- only lost one haulm
Today will be watering and picking salad leaves for lunch, with four ten year olds  ::) I do do other work as well, honest!!!

For several years I grew chili peppers at work on a south facing windowsill and always got decent results. A bonus (for forgetful types like me) is that they don't seem to mind it too much if you forget to water them before the weekend.
