Unusual Broad Bean Query
« on: May 26, 2015, 11:31 »
Most of my broad beans are down the allotment and seem to be doing fine (first time I've not grown them in the garden), but I have about seven still at home which I had no space for.  So I plonked them and their compost-filled toilet-roll-middles into a bucket of water to use as 'spares' or plant 'later' when I had cleared more land on the plot.  That was mid-March.

Of course, they are still in the bucket. And they are doing very well.  I dumped a non-doing shallot in its compost in the bucket and they seemed to like that - it has disappeared.  They are covered in flowers and tiny pods have begun to appear.

So my question is, what should I feed them?  I have access to chicken pellets, Baby Bio, that Chase seaweed concentrate and can probably put my hands on nettles and comfrey leaves.  Oh, and a bit of last year's tomato feed which has added magnesium.

I'm really curious about this.  Any thoughts?

I'm surprised they didn't drown in a bucket of water

I didn't mean to leave them there!

I should know myself better by now.  Nothing so dangerous as a gardener with plans...  :)

You could try a little dilute tomato feed and see what happens.
