My first chickens
« on: March 27, 2007, 21:44 »
Oh wow I got my first chickens today.  I went to the local livestock market and fell in love with a mum and her 2 chicks. I won her for a very small sum and brought her home.  I put them in my guinea pigs run to have a run and enjoy todays fab weather and it was a wonderful sight.  The chicks are so sweet.  I also bid for and won 3 bantums which also went into the other run and it was great to watch and hear them having so much pleasure from the weather and scratching round.

I hope this is just the start of my new love affair with my chickens.

Think mum is a Wyandotte and girls are light Sussex but if anyone knows different please tell me.

I was very lucky as the 3 girls I bid for were all girls and no cock birds.  The chicks are one of each but not a problem as my sister wants a cock bird when he is old enough to leave us.

He can always visit if we need his services !!

I have got my chickens for eggs only and do not intend eating any of them, if they fail to perform they will just have a happy freerange life here with us.

Shame on you, and I can't stand cooked chicken anyway.

Long live the girls
