Holes in the lawn ?
« on: February 03, 2017, 15:42 »
Hi everybody, what do you think is making these holes, they are about 4 x 3 inches and about 2-3 inches deep.
My first thought was a squirrel, muddled about where he had hidden nuts.  Then I thought green woodpecker or magpies (we have lots of them)  Somebody suggested foxes, but there are no traces of a fox  ie:  fox poo etc.

There are about 4-5 holes in total, on a north facing lawn, and they are near the house end.

What do you think ?   Sorry cannot show 'photo - not clever enough !!!!!
regards, Mrs Bouqet

My first thoughts would be fox or squirrel. We get foxes in the garden, they leave scratch marks up the gate and fence as they've climbed over but thankfully it's very rare they leave a poo.

Or rabbit?  Any little droppings?

Thanks for your replies.  Definitely not rabbit, never seen one here in 30 years.   Absolutely no trace of a fox, so I think I shall have to go with the Magpie/absent minded squirrel.  Anyway thanks again.  regards, Mrs Bouquet
