Storing leeks
« on: October 02, 2012, 19:09 »
I have fair few leeks that can be harvested, can these be pulled and stored, or should they be left in the soil until needed?

Leave them in the ground and thye will be just fine until you want to eat them

If your sol gets frozen solid mid winter, you can dig a few and heel them in somewhere so you can get at them when wanted

You can pull a few and cut them up and freeze raw... they last ages and easier to get some from the freezer if its all iced up and snowing outside.. (we are eating from a year ago)

One other trick, is to lift some, and heel them in somewhere easy to get to.

They'll be quite happy there.
