Going away - Allotment Panic !!!
« on: August 29, 2012, 12:26 »
Afternoon all,

Due to work commitments i have to go overseas for the next 5 weeks.
BUT,

i still have leeks and cabbages left in the ground at present - Will they be OK to leave for whenever the family want to pick them (i.e. each sunday for next 5 ??) or should they be pulled tonight, blanched and frozen ??

I also have chillis in the green house - but my son knows how to look after these and when to harvest etc.

Cheers,
Web
Keith

Leeks will be fine. Cabbages, probably. What variety are they out of interest?

Lots of people can only make it to the allotment once a week so I think your family should be able to manage in your absence to look after/harvest the crops left  ;)

Tell them not to touch the leeks.!They will sit in the ground all winter and you'll be grateful to have them when there's little else.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply's - Not sure what variety the leeks are to be honest,
But the cabbages are savoy - Pretty big as well now.

My issue is that I sow everything at the same time - Learning curve for next year i think.
I've had to scrap a few lettuce as the were well over grown and started to rot.

Thanks and i'll be back on in 5 weeks or so.

Thanks,
Keith.
