My polytunnel shakes in the mildest breeze and as the toms are tied to the stress-bars they also shake. I therefore have no explanation for the flowers not setting fruit

I have a couple of huge Brandywine plants in my tunnel. Plenty of flowers, foliage like a jungle but less than a dozen fruit.

Because of the size these tomatoes grow to, you're never going to get many setting, it would be more than the plant could support.

Your garden or allotment is weird Hubballi, hardly anything ever wants to grow for you.

Have you thought of moving somewhere else? ;)

The only problem I've had with outside tomatoes, is a touch of blight which I take off each time I see a bit, or sometimes I forget to water the big pots the bush tomatoes are in.  I think the rain has watered them, but sometimes I think it misses the pots on purpose!   :(

As I said, I have no problem with growing the plants as they are very healthy. Just plenty of flowers but no fruit. That wouldn't be down to my garden as the plant has grown as it should.

I have a similar problem with the Albenga tomatoes I'm growing this year - healthy plant, lots of flowers, but only few of them have set. Maybe it's a combination of weather and size of the tomatoes... I did shake the plant, and even done a bit of "artificial pollination" with a soft brush, but nothing. Mind you, this variety tastes so good that I'm going to grow it again anyway.

What are you feeding them with, Hubballi?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Quite a few are now setting so it must have been the poor weather. I will report what happens later on.

They might be setting but I doubt there's time for them to grow much before the weather brings us all to a halt

I think it's called "Job's Comforter".
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Why not ? The weather is going to be good for a while yet. It's certainly hot here and I can cut them off and put them in the windowsill.

"He that lives upon hope will die fasting" Benjamin Franklin :)

Being serious for a moment, if Brandywine are just setting now, I'd offer very long odds on them maturing to any size before lack of daylight and warmth call time on them. I hope I'm wrong because I have a few plants in the g/h that escaped blight and are still setting fruit :D

Well Alan may be right, but after all your worry about them Hubballi, I hope you get some fruits, even if they are still green.

Just remember that ripe banana!!!   ;)

I have a lot of other variety's in the greenhouse that escaped blight as well as in the garden. Again, fruits that are still green can be bought in the house and ripened with a banana.
