Transplanting rasperry cane suckers
« on: August 22, 2012, 22:50 »
I have a few gaps in my raspberry row and I have a few daughter plants which have suckered from my main plants.

I know I am supposed to wait until next spring to transplant these but the suckers are very near my parsnips and I am worried they might be taking nutrients my parsnips will need.

I am considering transplanting these, making sure they have a fair clump of soil around the roots and transplanting them into the row immediately and watering in and mulching well.

Or should I wait until spring?

Sounds like they should be fine in the move. I do the same thing when necessary.

You can move them now, and depending on whether they're summer or autumn ones, cut them back accordingly.

Plenty of mulch and a good liquid manure feed should do the trick; they grow like weeds anyway!
