I have had to wait ages to get my chicken coop and am now slapping wood preserver on.  have also got some 12 gauge wire to fox proof under and around it.  I don't think that we will get the coop erected till mid September, though.  So should I wait till next spring before getting my chickens, or is it ok to buy some POL next month?

It seems like a good time of the year to get POL.  They will have time to settle in before the winter.

Thanks for the reply, that was my thoughts too, but hubby had doubts!

I got my first hens on the 30th December 2011 in that awful winter and didn't find it a problem at all.  There should be a decent choice of POL at this time of the year.  Don't forget to post photos when you get your hens.

I got some POL begininning of November last year and they started laying 3 weeks later.
