Ordering Pink Fir Apple
« on: November 12, 2007, 21:18 »
I am about to order my seed spuds for next year.
I am considering Pink Fir Apple for use as a maincrop.
How well do these spuds store? And do they make good mash?
Mrs Fatbelly loves Mashed spuds with her Sunday roast!
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

Store great. Mashing is about the only thing they don't do too well.  They are very waxy texture and fiddly to peel.  Best taste going though.

The best potato I think, but really only suitable for scrubbing and boiling and covering in butter,or going for the full heart attack by deep frying the little ones.I grew picasso as our maincrop this year and still got a decent crop despite the blight, pink fir crop later, around sept/oct so we had only a few small ones this year again because of blight.

I saw some in the T&M catalogue I think which were a cross between PFA and some other exotic thing (an elephant?) I'm thinking of having a go at them.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Try them roasted, chipped, pan fried, etc (all skin on).   And don't forget that they are actually known as a salad variety
