RIP Rooster Cogburn
« on: July 09, 2012, 18:56 »
My cockerel, Rooster Cogburn, passed away today - I think he may have had a stroke. He came out of the coop this morning veering to one side and the side of his face had dropped. He died within the hour. He was an old boy - nearly six and his ladies seem lost without him.
I shall miss him  :(

I bet you will miss him, but he had a great life and went quickly. 6 is a pretty good age for a rooster.  You must have looked after him well  :)

Great name. Wonder if he walked a bit like John Wayne after getting off his horse...

He did "walk the walk" and was very good with his ladies. I only have one hen the same age as him left - she is part of the trio that included him and the very first chickens that I bought. She still seems really sprightly, so here's hoping she won't go this year.

Thanks everyone for your kind messages.

Aww, that's so sad. I always think roosters have more of a personality than hens, so it's harder to see them go
