Strawberry weevil help
« on: June 10, 2012, 22:04 »
Hi all,

My strawberry plants are having a good year with lots of big fruit (just waiting for the redness),but on checking today have noticed lots of white foam on the plants and a bit of digging online shows this to be weevil?

Any advice in this and will it ruin the crop?! What shall I do?
New grower here - handle with care!!

Strawberry weevil is a new one on me (were you looking at US websites?)

Sounds more like cuckoo spit, which protects the young froghopper within and doesn't usually cause many problems - if that's the case you don't have to do anything.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

If it worries you then blast it off with a squirt of water

Link to RHS page on cuckoo spit here.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
