I have some ash from my bonfire and was wondering the best way to use it on the soil?
is it good for all veg or just some?
and should it be put on now or saved for the spring?

I'm going to the plot in a moment to put some down on an uncultivated part. I'm preparing a few rows for spuds, but these go in around the start of next year. I'll be digging the soil up, then, once dug, applying the cinders & ash. I think this may act like a mulch over winter. Then, when sowing time arrives, I'll rotovate it and plant me spuds.

Ash is alkaline, though - it is high in potash (potassium salts). I haven't got a pH meter or kit to test the extent of it, though.

I'd be inclined to add it, in dusted layers, to your compost heap.
